Dress Code
Thomas Jefferson Upper Elementary expects our students to take pride in their appearance. A student’s outward appearance is reflected in his/her attitude toward school and self. All students are expected to groom and dress themselves appropriately and adhere to the following rules:

All uniforms consist of gold, purple or white polo shirts with khaki or navy bottoms.

No sweatshirt may be worn as outer wear unless it is a spirit sweatshirt sold by Thomas Jefferson.

All pants with belt loops must be worn with a belt.

Bottoms should be worn at waist level.

No Crocs of any kind are allowed.

NO HOODIES (a hoodie is defined as any sweatshirt with a hood attached).

Boys are NOT allowed to wear earrings.
Unacceptable Items:
● Any clothing considered revealing or inappropriate by the school staff
● Clothing advertising alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, etc.
● Clothing with suggestive words or pictures
● Combs, picks, sharp pointed items (ex. metal combs)
● Earrings (boys only), nose rings, or any body piercing of any kind
● Heavy chains, wallet chains, spike necklaces, or other inappropriate types of jewelry
● Pajamas
● Shoes with wheels or no back
● Sunglasses
● Distressed jeans or thread bearing jeans with holes
● Hats, caps, or other headwear
● Sagging bottoms (bottoms that sit below the waist)
● Shorts or skirts more than four (4) inches above the middle of the kneecap
● Spandex based pants that fit like leggings
● Transparent shorts, pants, or skirts
● Tube tops, tank tops, and similar items of clothing
● Sleeveless shirts with large, oversize arm openings
● See-through tops that show midriff, back, or cleavage
● House shoes, house slippers, or furry slippers
Note: The administrative staff has the discretion to determine the appropriateness of any clothing.
The administration reserves the right to alter and announce changes in the dress code
guidelines to address situations that interfere with an appropriate educational environment.
