Dress Code
Uniforms

7th grade uniforms consist of gold or white polo shirts with khaki bottoms. 8th grade uniforms consist of black or gray polo shirts with khaki bottoms.

Shorts, skirts, and split-skirts shall be allowed so long as they measure no shorter than three (3) inches above the knee when the student is standing. Students MUST wear solid white, black, or gray leggings with skirts/ skorts.

Solid white, black, or gray leggings worn under dresses, skirts, or shorts shall be allowed.

Only full zip-up or full button up jackets without hoods or the NJH spirit sweatshirt may be worn as outerwear.

No sweatshirt may be worn as outer wear unless it is a spirit sweatshirt sold by NJH in the grade appropriate color.
The following are NOT allowed at NJH unless otherwise stated by the principal:

Hoodies, quarter and half zipped jackets, biking shorts, boxer shorts worn as outer wear, sweat suits, warm-ups, jogging suits, pants with unrepaired holes, skin-tight pants, pajama pants and pants worn below the waist shall not be allowed.

Outwear with a hood is not allowed.

Sleeveless shirts.

Backless shoes of any kind (e.g. Crocs, sandals, flip-flops, and slippers).

Student ID Badges
As a safety measure all students will be photographed and issued an official NJH identification badge upon entry into school. These IDs must be worn on a string or lanyard around the neck. These IDs must be worn daily and visible at all times as a part of the student uniform. The cost for a replacement ID is $5.00 and must be paid at the time a new ID is issued. A temporary ID, good for one day only, can be purchased in the Instructional Technology room for $1.00 (first one is free) from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. daily. If a student does not wear their ID, disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the dress code policy.
Grooming
Hair shall be neat, well-groomed, and clean at all times and shall not obstruct the face. Shaved parts in the hair shall be limited to two (2) and each part shall not exceed three (3) inches in length. Numbers, designs, symbols, works, and phrases shall not be cut into the hair. Hair styles and hair dyed outlandish colors which cause a disruption to the educational process shall not be allowed. Hair rollers, nets, plastic caps, bandannas, head bands, etc. are not allowed. Tattoos that display offensive messages or other offensive language must be hidden from view at all times. Caps, hats, sunglasses, or bandanas may not be worn inside school buildings. Gang-related clothing is prohibited. All students are allowed to wear earrings and other piercings.

Spirit Fridays
Students may purchase a spirt shirt from the front office that they may wear each Friday. Only the current year spirt shirt may be worn. Students must still abide by the Monroe City School Board dress code policy. Students must wear uniform bottoms unless the principal otherwise gives permission.
