Meet Our Principal

Mr. Michael D. Price, Sr. 

Mr. Michael Price is the distinguished principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High School in Monroe, Louisiana. He earned his Bachelor of Science in music performance from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. His teaching career began in Clinton, Louisiana, as band director at Clinton High School until he relocated to his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, to become the band director of his alma mater, Carroll High School. He later earned two master degrees in music education and educational leadership, respectively, from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. His career in administration began as the Dean of Students at Carroll Junior High School. He continued his career in administration as Assistant Principal at J. S. Clark Magnet School and Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High School before becoming principal at Thomas Jefferson Upper Elementary School. In 2021, at the request of the Superintendent and with the support of the faculty and staff, he returned to Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High School to serve as principal. Mr. Price has been named Principal of the Year for three consecutive years. In addition to these duties, he is also an instructor of Drill Design and Saxophone Applied Music at Grambling State University, where he also serves as assistant band director for the World Famed Marching Band. Mr. Price is also involved in the Monroe Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Ouachita for emerging leaders. He currently resides in his hometown with his wife of 25 years and their three children.
