WELCOME TO SALLIE HUMBLE ELEMENTARY
All our students and parents are special to the staff of Sallie Humble Elementary. We want your child to succeed, and we welcome your assistance. Here are some items of information about our school that will be helpful to you.
SCHOOL TIME

Sallie Humble Elementary opens its doors for students beginning at 7:30 a.m. We coordinate our schedule with Lexington; therefore, if you have a child at both schools, you should drop them off first at Sallie Humble.

If students are eating breakfast, please have them at school no later than 7:50.

Gym entrance doors close at 7:55. Class begins at 8:00 a.m.

Students must report to the office to get a tardy slip if they arrive after 8:00 a.m.
TRANSPORTATION

Students cannot be dropped off before 7:30. Please do not pull into the parking lot until 7:30.

Dismissal begins at 3:00. Cars should not pull into the parking lot until 2:45.

Please follow the drop off/pick up map to help traffic flow smoothly and safely.

Walkers are dismissed around 3:15.
-
All students should be picked up from school by 3:20.
-
Students cannot be checked out after 2:30.
RIDING THE SCHOOL BUS

Students may NOT ride a bus that is not their regular bus OR get off at any stop other than their own without prior permission.

Bus Change Requests must be sent in writing and approved by Mr. Drewry and also turned into the Bus Barn.
We do not have any control over buses, routes, pick up times, etc. All questions and concerns should be directed to the Transportation Department 318-325-0601 EXT 3097.
DRESS FOR SCHOOL

Our students wear uniforms.

Tops are knit polo style in either red, white, or navy blue.

Slacks, shorts, skirts, jumpers, or skorts are either khaki (tan) or navy blue.

Bottoms should be cotton blend.
-
No athletic shorts or skorts.
-
Sweat pants, leggings, joggers are not allowed.
-
Sweatshirts or hoodies may be worn but should not have writing on them.

Hoods, caps, hats, cannot be worn in the building.
-
No backless shoes will be allowed. CROCS are not allowed.
-
Tennis shoes must be worn for participation in P.E.
SPIRIT DAYS
Spirit Days are usually on Fridays when the students and teachers wear their Sallie Humble T-shirts to promote school pride. On Spirit Days, students may wear blue jeans or uniform bottoms. Uniforms are always appropriate dress even on Spirit Days.
CONCESSIONS
Concessions are sold on Fridays only at Sallie Humble Elementary. These are purchased after lunch on Friday. No outside food or drinks are to be brought to school at any time. (Except if the school designates a special day.)
LUNCHES

Lunches brought from home must be in lunch bags or boxes.

Lunches are not to be brought to school in fast food bags or containers (Ex. McDonalds, Canes, Subway, etc.).

No drinks from fast food restaurants are allowed.
-
No glass containers or carbonated drinks allowed. (These are state laws).
**Office staff cannot take/deliver any food items for lunch that are not already in “unmarked” containers. No Door Dash orders will be accepted.

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Effective with the 2024-2025 school year, Louisiana law (Act 313, amending LA Rev Stat § 17:239) mandates that, during the instructional day, student electronic telecommunication devices—including cell phones and smartwatches—must be turned off and properly stowed away. Devices cannot be on a student's person.
